What We Do

Community health workers are the backbone of healthcare in Africa, capable of saving millions of lives.

Despite their lifesaving work, they are often confronted with:

  • Insufficient training or supervision
  • Frequent stock-outs
  • Lack of integration into systems
  • Little or no pay

Governments across Africa are eager to harness the enormous potential of professional community health workers. But few countries have the financing they need to do so. There is a $4.3 billion annual funding gap, and existing resources are stuck in inefficient systems.

But we can change this. With the right investments and political will, we can unlock the power of community health workers to save three million additional lives per year.

Informed by decades of combined experience, Africa Frontline First has set out to transform the way community health worker programs are financed, bringing lifesaving care to millions across Africa.

We exist to make financing more available and effective for countries, enabling national community health worker programs to deliver at scale.

Africa Frontline First partners with governments, donors, doers, and regional institutions to drive smarter, more effective financing for community health workers and build a stronger future where every community has access to quality healthcare.

Our three-part approach puts governments in the driving seat, enabling them to be the deal-makers of their community health programs– directly impacting professional community health workers and patients across the continent:

  • Catalyze coordinated investment behind country priorities, not fragmented projects
  • Help build the institutions that make community health systems last through technical assistance
  • Advocate for increased political commitment and sustained financing for community health

By 2030, Africa Frontline First’s program will train and deploy 200,000 professional community health workers, and ensure 100 million people can access lifesaving care.
