We provide technical assistance to 17 African countries to strengthen community health systems.
What We Do
We help countries unlock financing, refine policies, and improve resource coordination, ensuring every dollar counts for community health workers and their patients. We currently provide technical assistance to governments in 17 African countries, working alongside implementing partners with deep expertise in each country. In each country, we partner closely with an implementing partner with deep country insights and expertise in community health. Together, we empower governments to design, fund, and implement high-quality national community health plans that match their priorities.
Our Approach
Collaborative Expertise: We work with governments and trusted in-country implementing partners with a strong track record of government partnership and community health experience. We combine our experience with in-country partners, including offering tailored technical assistance.
Aligned Financing: Through the Building Integrated Readiness for Community Health (BIRCH) Project with the Global Fund, we help countries unlock and coordinate funding, ensuring governments are in the driver’s seat.
Practical Solutions: From strengthening electronic health data systems to standardizing training for community health workers, we support countries in developing practical tools to reach their goals.
Our Impact
Burkina Faso
In partnership with Living Goods, we validated a new community health strategy (2024–2028) that expands the reach and scope of community health workers, ensuring that lifesaving care is accessible to all.
Zambia
Working with the Financing Alliance for Health, we developed a geo-referenced master list for nearly 100,000 community-based volunteers, enabling standardized training, incentives, and more effective frontline care. Over 8,000 new community-based volunteers have been brought on board through Project BIRCH financing.
Liberia
Teaming up with Last Mile Health and the Ministry of Health, we conducted a system maturity assessment of the National Community Health Program, providing actionable insights to guide improvements and ensure the program meets community needs.
Cote d’Ivoire
Together with Muso Health and the Ministry of Health, we supported over 1,000 community health workers with smartphones and digital tools, and training — driving change at the systems level to scale professional community health workers and deliver better care to patients.

We aim to empower governments to create robust policies, financing plans, and tools that unlock and align financing—paving the way for countries to scale and strengthen their community health worker programs.
